Meet Marilyn Heise

Marilyn Beardsley Heise is a journalist and entrepreneur. She worked for Billboard Magazine and Vend Magazine, founded The Working Craftsman and Craft Books Inc., freelanced for the Chicago Tribune, and wrote a Sunday features column for the Chicago Sun-Times for five years. She was vice president of two Chicago public relations agencies and president of Creative Consulting Inc. The author also founded Heartfelt, a charity greeting cards company. Marilyn and her husband Jack live on the coast of Maine.

Marilyn was harmed by taking a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.  As she slowly recovered, she discovered others who had experienced more serious and severe injuries from these drugs that had been prescribed by their doctors. She decided to investigate. What she found were thousands of anguished stories from other fluoroquinolone victims whose disabling side effects were being dismissed by the medical community. She discovered the cruel ethics of pharmaceutical companies that promote profits over safety, unreliable regulation by the FDA, overuse in hospitals, errors in pharmacy dispensing, and over-prescribing by doctors. The result of her extensive research is the book Perilous Pills. The book also offers tips on how to safely protect yourself and your loved ones.

What a topic and so intricately researched! Marilyn Beardsley Heise writes in a readily readable style. It’s hard to put down.
